Finally, after months of preparation, Taaruf Week December 2008/2009 intake is finally over. There are lots of issues, problems, good and bad memories will be remembered for both students and committee throughout the program. I can consider it is quite blessful because everything runs smoothly. It supposed to be a rainy season but its not raining during the lunch and dinner time right?
Well, I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of other committees to welcome all of the new students to the Garden of Knowledge and Virtue. If you have any problem, don't hesitate to contact us. Our phone number is there inside the Program Book.
I also would like to hear any comments and testimonials about the program from you guys. You can make it public by leaving a comment to this entry. You also can direct the message to us using the feedback form.
If you have any request to the multimedia committee, just leave a comment in any entries or through the shoutbox. There are thousands of pictures taken. Only few are selected and uploaded into the web. You can check the picture gallery here.
Till then, don't forget to bookmark and subscribe to this blog. Thank you.

New Students performing Chicken Dance for Cultural Night
Its one of the exhilarating performance by the brothers. They have performed the chicken dance on the stage and they also had invited some committee to dance with them. I found it very funny. Well done guys!
Course Registration
At the end of the day, all the new students went for a course registration. First semester is very important when registering for subjects. It is so important because it will affect your first semester study life in the campus, whether you can adapt to it or not. Besides that, the first semester CGPA also will be determine by the first course registration during Taaruf. Don't worry. You still can change your subjects during the adjustment period. (Dec 16 - Dec 26) For more information, you can check A&R website and also the important dates for Sem 2, 08/09.
New Students taking oath during Bai'ah Ceremony
Bai'ah Ceremony is the most highlighted event during Ta'aruf Week because students will be taking oath in front of the Senate Members of the IIUM.
Thursday, December 18
Bai'ah Rehearsal is shorter than before
Bai'ah is an oath or pledge that students will have to declare during the orientation. In other university, its like Akujanji. Its the tradition of Taaruf Week in IIUM, both in branch and main campus. This time, students don't have to do rehearsal many times. Its enough just to make it on the day before. Besides that, the Bai'ah script also was shortened. I knew it because I'm the one who doing the multimedia backdrop for the Bai'ah too!
IIUM Campus Tour
Most of the multimedia committee were quite busy in preparing the KYKM videos. Since they have the campus tour slots, I've suggested to screen my old IIUM Virtual Tour video. It was created two years ago for Taaruf July 2006/2007 Intake but it still reliable isn't it? If I have the time, I want to make a better video that shows the Mahallah and other facilities such as stadium etc.
Rules are meant to be broken?
I was the emcee for the Legal SDEC and Security Session. For me, this is the best session because students can know and understand what misbehave that they should have known when studying in IIUM. I also enjoy the pictures in the slides. But I think its better if Legal Unit can include about disciplinary actions that was taken for cases like clubbing.
IIUM Campus Wireless System
During ITD Briefing, the officer main talk about the function of ITD in IIUM and also the implementation of wireless network in the campus. I'm quite agree with one of the sister who asked them about those who don't use laptops. However, I think in the near future, students will be carrying laptop or nettop just like we carry our handphones. Who needs PC anyway.
Sleeping Beauties during Taaruf
Qiyamullail at SHAS Mosque IIUM
Qiyamullail activity was conducted at SHAS Mosque. After the last night session, all students sleep at the mosque. About 4am, DnI and other committees wake up the students.

Students learning to sing IIUM Students song
Students were learning to sing IIUM Students Song because they will have to sing the song during the Bai'ah Ceremony on Friday. I hope that they can sing it passionately with high spirit. I pretty like the up-beat version of this song which was re-composed back in 2007.
Taaruf Gimmick was a blast!
If you've missed the gimmick video, now you can watch it online at Youtube. The video took about 10 minutes. The opening ceremony was launched by Dato' Hamidon Abdul Hamid during the Session with Deputy Rector and Opening Ceremony.
Know Your Kulliyah briefing about academic matters
In the afternoon session, students went to their own respective kulliyahs for a briefing about academic matters such as study duration, type of majors and courses as well as what they will have to know about subjects they should register for their new semester. After the briefing, students were required to answer Fundamental Knowledge Test (FKT) about Fardhu Ain as a placement test.
Having lunch at SHAS Mosque courtyard
Students have to eat their lunch at the courtyard but some of them even take the meal to HS cafe. So far, the food is delicious, both for students and committee. Thanks for keeping the cleanliness at the courtyard too. Good job to all Catering committees!
962 students: More students more troubles
According to Sis. Hayatun, there are more direct intake especially oversea students that are coming for registration on the second day. Initially, it was supposed to be only 862 students. That's why some of the students have to sit at the Experimental Hall because is already full at Main Auditorium. Its been quite a tough day for all the committees too as we need to take care of the welfare of some sick students.
Unfortunately, there are also some theft that happen. Not to mention some of them who ditched the briefing session. Whatever it is, we will entertain the students no matter how fussy they are.

Live from Experimental Hall
On the second day, there are more briefings from various divisions such as A&R, Finance, S-DEV, CCAC and also from the respective kulliyah. Experimental Hall was used to support additional students. Live telecast was setup so that the LCD screen will show the same thing as in Main Auditorium. Well this Taaruf also has set a new record where its 'The First Taaruf Week that was held on Two Venues' with the support of CPD Technician. Thank you and congratulation guys.

First day of Taaruf Week on Youtube
Credit to Multimedia committee for the picture and slideshow. During the screening of the video, there was a technical problem with the audio system. We are really sorry for that. Check out the video.
Taaruf Kit distribution at Main Auditorium
Taaruf kit is a backpack for the new students. Inside the kit, there is a batik shirt, a sport shirt and some informative documents, pamhplet and reminders for the new students regarding the flow of the program. The distribution activity was conducted by Registration commitee assisted by Special Task and Catering committees. Click picture for larger size.
I found its quite useful because most sisters don't have backpack unlike brothers. It is also very useful to stuff many items especially for the Qiyamullail session on Thursday.

New home for the new IIUM students
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome my new brothers and sisters to the garden of Knowledge and Virtue. Mahallah registration is the first session where parents will send their son/daughter to their new home, IIUM.
All students from CFS went to Mahallah for the registration while direct intake students had to register at the Main Auditorium lobby.

Final touch at Main Auditorium
Final touch was held at Main Auditorium on 9pm on Monday. All head comm is giving their report and reminders to all committee for the first day of Taaruf on Tuesday. All of them looks totally anticipated for this day to come.
Committee name tag with tentative and prayer times
After 3 days of shooting, cropping and designing, finally the tag is ready to be distributed to all committees. Let's see what's cool about this design. First of all, its not laminated. It has two pictures of the committee, close up view and freestyle look. (No wonder they spent more time to crop all of them).
Second, I think that the other side of the tag should have some more information that can benefit the committee. So I put 4 days tentative and also prayer times. This feature is quite useful because committee can easily check about the event and also reminds them to perform prayers on time.

Main board horse ride at Taman Tasik Titiwangsa
Main board went to Taman Tasik Titiwangsa for their KYKM video shoot on Monday. This time they even tried the horse riding activity. Pretty cool eh?
862 students will be joining Taaruf today
According to Hayatun, Head comm of registration committee, 862 students will be joining Taaruf Week for December intake 2008/2009. 588 students will be coming from Centre for Foundation Studies and 259 direct intake students, both Malaysian and oversea students. Another 15 students had confirmed their attendance for re-taaruf session. According to gender, there wil be 396 brothers and 451 sisters.

Catering committees go for picnic at IIUM river
For the KYKM, Catering committees go to IIUM river in front of Cultural Activity Centre. They had planned to shoot at 12pm but since it was raining, they have postponed it to do it at 5pm. Unfortunately Bro. Salleh, assistant head comm is having chicken pox. His position was replaced with Bro. Azizuddin.
Xpax sponsor committee shirt?
Committee t-shirt has a combination of purple and orange color. This really looks like a Xpax official shirt. Actually, this program don't have any relationship with Xpax. Just coincidence perhaps. But students t-shirt remain with the yellow colored shirt.
Mass gathering at Main Auditorium
Mass gathering for all committees was held at Main Auditorium on 8pm. On the first session, all head comm had reported and deliver some announcement for all committees. Registration bureau also had distribute all t-shirt and batik for committees too. For the second session, Welfare & Welcoming bureau held a First Aid kit training for their committees. This is important as they should know how to take a good care of the welfare of the students.

Special Task shoots extended ending from Gimmick

Prep&Tech shooting at Taman Metropolitan Kepong
Prep & Tech committee went to Taman Metropolitan Kepong to shoot their Knowing You Knowing Me video. Fakhrul, Farid and Fazilah from Multimedia Bureau had assisted them for the shooting session. According to Nurul Akhmam, they begin the shooting from 11am until 2pm under the hot and sunny day.
Looking for best talent at Emcee Audition
On 9.00 a.m today, emcee audition was being held at Main Auditorium and half of our committee member turn up for the audition. The candidates received the scripts ten minutes before the judges called them. Some of them were very talented and the rest need to be trained so that they will be selected for being an emcee. Preparation and Technical bureau were very supportive and sent 80% of their man power for the audition.
The judges were the program manager and assistant program manager themselves and they gave good comments for all the candidates. Congratulation to all the selected candidates and for the rest who were not selected, there is always next Taaruf for a second try. Practice makes perfect!

Cultural Activity of Induction Course
Cultural Activity was held at LT1 as the closing activity for the Induction Course. Each bureau was assigned to perform based on their creativity on some topics such as ethics on visiting relatives, telling smokers to quit and marriage: now and then. Everyone is having fun with lots of laughs and cheers while watching the performance. Its good that they can finally enjoy themselves after doing works and get busy on the day. After this, its time to get serious guys and let's get the job done!
Shooting for Launching Gimmick
Multimedia bureau has already shoot the video for the gimmick. The shooting took place inside IIUM campus from the mosque, courtyard and also main auditorium. Some committees had become the supporting actors for the fighting scene. There's a bit of action and CGI will be incorporated into the gimmick. The final video will be screened on 17th December during the Slot with Deputy Rector of Students and Alumni Affairs.
Photo Shoot for Committee Name Tag
Photo shoot session for all committees was conducted at the entrance of LT1 by the Multimedia bureau. This time, they will have to take two photos. One is the standard face look and another one is full body. After taking the pictures, the committee will have to write their name and other information on a list so that its easier for Multimedia bureau to identify whose in the pictures. Using blue cloth for the backdrop will make it easier for cropping the pictures later.
Presentation of Action Plan
For the last day of induction, all bureau will have to present about the action plan. Action plan is a schedule of works and jobs that each committee will have to do during the preparation day. The presentation was conducted at LT1 at 11.30 am until 12.30pm. Since all brothers will have to go for Friday prayer, the presentation was continued at night after the dinner.
